He was known as Dragon of the Hesperides (in Latin Draco Hesperidum). He was the son of Forcis and Keto or Typhon and Equidna according to the version. Hera sent him to guard his orchard of golden apples, since he did not trust the Hesperian daughters of Atlas. Heracles killed him in one of his twelve works. To thank for his loyal services, Hera, ascended his remains to the sky, where since then forms the Constellation of the Dragon.
