HW Review:
Hey Niki, thanks for submitting your HW for week 1! I love that I can hear your smile throughout your performance. There's a few spots where you add a little "puff" of air to your words as if attaching a tiny chuckle to the sentence. It's very human to have little efforts like that trickle through your speech, and that can add so much authenticity to a performance! Lovely to hear it!
Onto the main goal for this homework practice; projection. This is where your performance falls short. Remember, you're supposed to be projecting as if you are in a gymnasium full of people, you have no mic, and the people in the back need to be able to hear you. If you spoke the same way as you do in your submission in that environment, only the front row would be able to understand you.
To really PROJECT your voice, you need to utilize your diaphragm. Place your hand on your core where you diaphragm is located and take a deep breath in, hold it, and push it out. Familiarize yourself with how it feels to breath with your diaphragm so you can better utilize it when performing a script that requires projection.
You approach this read with a very soft, gentle, almost "breathy" tone, which sounds lovely in its own way but does not hold up to the setting that this script is meant for. Keep practicing with your diaphragm! I look forward to hearing you tackle projection in the coming weeks!
Thank you so much for all of the feedback!!
