Class Session 1
Gus Miller for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
So one thing that I’ll explain is that when we say, “One Take” we mean that as it doesn’t have to be your “First Take”. We ask that you just have the one take that you’re willing to submit. But nonetheless, I appreciate you keeping in the practice and the flubs! I see that there are points that you are trying to read the script before you even get into the main take. Which, I recommend, just reading the entire script to yourself before you hit record. This is to help familiarize yourself with the script.
You have a great way of recovering from said flubs also, cause sometimes, you just need to take a deep breath, but also, it’s okay to go a bit further back before hand, like a line before. It can really help yourself reset your brain when that happens.
One of the biggest things that I can really tell is that you’re going way too fast, too fast when you are reading. It could be what’s causing some of the flubs and stumbling when it comes to this. The two major things when it comes to this, is that a big tip I give is to always, familiarize yourself completely with the script, always be willing to practice it more and more. And the other thing that I warned in class, is that I will probably be telling y’all to “slow down”, it’s super important to slow down as we naturally find ourselves just reading really fast whether it’s nerves or what not. I’ll be saying Slow down a lot, but that’s going to be okay during your few weeks! Feel free to make a game out of how many times I say it to everyone in this class!
One thing that does get really apparent is your frustration, try to avoid that especially when the direction is just giving a speech, you don’t want yor audience to think that you’re frustrated at them. So try to counter act that with a big smile! It’s okay to just fake it, think of something that you really like and transfer that energy into it!
And don’t worry about nailing it when it comes to these homeworks, nothing is ever “terrible” when it comes to how we read things, we need to remember that we’re having fun learning on this world of voice acting and when it comes to everyone here, the only time you do “terrible” is when you don’t try your best, cause with us, doing your best, is more than enough! :)
