Rivas is the rookie of Alpha-1 — the newest Helljumper to join the squad. While the others are battle-hardened veterans scarred by Reach’s fall, Rivas still carries a trace of idealism and fresh determination. He’s skilled enough to earn his ODST stripes, but he hasn’t yet been weathered by years of blood and ash like the rest

His role gives the audience a point of relatability: he asks the questions, feels the fear, and reacts the way a human would when confronted with the horrors on Reach. But under that uncertainty lies courage — Rivas wants to prove he belongs with Alpha-1.
“I just don’t get it… patrols vanish, outposts go dark… and we’re next in line? That doesn’t sit right.”
“Contact front! I’ve got movement — three hostiles, closing fast!”
“I might be new, but I can pull my weight. Don’t count me out.”
