Blackstar: A RWBY-inspired novel podcast
Barry Shawn for Aleksandr Karpatov
Professor Aleksandr Karpatov is a first generation immigrant and political refugee, though he is fairly secretive about his past. He is a large, imposing, wild-haired man, bleary-eyed and brooding—or so he seems at first. Conversation with the man would reveal three things about him:
his immense well of knowledge when it comes to monsters and the desire to pass this knowledge on;
an extremely dry sense of humor, making it hard to place if his words are poor attempts at dark humor or simply a lack of filter;
the fact that his stature and demeanor hide, in fact, that he is even more threatening than it seems at first.
He is tricky to place emotionally but has some softer side deeper within him, as shown to close friends and his ward, Tiber.
Karpatov has a deep voice, and speaks in a 'eastern' accent (Which, in our world, would amount to a slavic/eastern european one). His delivery is quite monotone, but bears undeniable wit. His words are well thought-out before he speaks them, and bring with them a sense of authority, one which is absolute within his lectures.
Karpatov's role is fairly major and he will appear frequently in the story.
In the case of Karpatov, rather than providing the emotions on display, which would be hard to gauge for such a man, I have provided the context of his actions when speaking the lines below. Feel free to imagine yourself how this large, burly slavic man would feel doing these things!

[Juggling a monster's brain from one hand to the other] Cerebrums have no vital organs within their body except for the brain, so don’t worry much about your approach—but don’t think you can relax if you remove the head.
[Responding to an ooze-covered student] The goo is not vital. It is, however, hard to get out of your hair. Don’t lean that close to the specimen.
[Comforting an injured friend] You are getting old, my friend. Stay in good shape as much as you’d like, keep your mind as sharp as a blade and pride yourself in your experience, but you cannot stop yourself from growing old. Complacent, too.
