Class Session 3
JohnEnglishVA for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
A fun read John! I like the style and the character voice you put on. Just remember that the character voice and style should never come at the expense of the read. As we went down the script we hit a few snags and we didn't fully commit to re-takes. When we flub a line remember to stop reading and go back up the script to the top of the phrase. Be that the beginning of the sentence, a comma, or some other natural pause in the script, and start again from there. Fixing just the word we mess up on doesn't edit cleanly and just results in having to go back later on and re-record the line!
Also one of the purposes of this weeks homework was to look up the pronunciations of the words/names we were unfamiliar with and recite them correctly. See Avignon, Rasmussen, Sarkozi. We also want to make sure we're getting the right words on the script. Near the end specifically there were a number of times where we deviated from the script as written.
I think some of our pronunciation problems stemmed as well from too fast of a reading pace. There were a few times when we snagged on the script and paused then just continued on. Slow on down the read, let yourself read ahead. We want our pauses to be planned on natural breaks in the read. If we get hung up on some part in a sentence, count it as a flub and retake the phrase.
This was a fun read John, just remember to keep good foundations too! Watch those pronunciations, watch read pace, and lets work on stopping our read to clean our mistakes! Great work John, looking forward to more!
