HW Review
Hey, Jo! Thank you for submitting your homework for week 3! (Apologies for the delayed review.)
You have a good grasp on articulation and breath control. You hit most of the pronunciation with accuracy, but be mindful when you fumble over a word or sentence. Stop, recover, and restart. For example, you pause and push through the word "carotenoid" in an awkward way that indicates you weren't sure on how to say it. In that moment, the best practice would be to retake the line from the top so you can tackle that word more confidently.
You do a great job at stopping and retaking most of your fumbles, especially at the end of the script! Treat words you're unsure about in the same way and you'll be golden.
Secondly, slow down. You're taking this script at too quick a pace for the setting you are trying to create. The problem isn't necessarily the pacing itself, but also the consistency of it. You stay at a constant rapid pace the entire way through, which sounds unnatural. When in conversation, you wouldn't typically speak at the same pacing the entire time you are telling a story to someone. Practice fluctuating with your reading speeds and you will hit that more casual tone much better.
I LOVE that you add little "laughs" in a couple of places. This is a great use of vocalized breath to create emotion! Feel free to play around more with those kinds of "off script" additions. It's little bits like that that can add a lot of personality to a script!
This is a solid read! You just need to practice your pacing. Slow down and work on varying your speed to keep the listeners engaged and give you more room to play within the script.
Thank you so much, this was very insightful!Pacing is definitely one of my biggest struggles currently, even in normal conversation I talk so fast to the point of stuttering, haha! But now that I'm more conscious of it I can make an effort to practice slowing down!
