Class Session 1
Derek DeAtley for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
You've got great energy, and you're projecting quite well. The articulation was marvelous. There's something up with your overall sound though, pretty sure it's a mic issue. The whole thing sounds a bit spacey.
Thanks! I noticed that too and I couldn't figure out why it sounded that way. I just downloaded Reaper and my recordings have been better.
Very very clean read here Derek. Most impressive cold reading skills on display! Great stuff. Some quick notes:
0:36 nice rapid pace well articulated run here!
0:41 No entrée not entry
0:46 not a flub on a word but you do stumble on september a bit. Enough that i would go back and take that line again.
1:25 pick up *your free gift not a free gift
2:00 added *an to "with authentic vinyl..."
Like I said earlier great read here, very few mistakes. Do still be aware of any flubs as you read and try to catch them during a read. Catching them during a read allows you to back up in the moment and retake a flub or pause and fix it faster than having to scrub through a whole recording session for mistakes. When you do catch a mistake, or even just something you want to do another take of, stop reading, back up to a natural break in the script, and take the line again. A lot of times this is a sentence end or comma but really it can be anywhere you had a natural pause in the read.
In terms of projection you had a nice variation of 5-7 through the read. Engaging and punctuated though I did feel your low ends would be a little too soft in a gym full of people. I love the dynamic range in the performance, I would just want you to bring that range up more to a 6-8 volume! Don't want parts of our read getting lost due to getting too soft in some parts.
Finally pacing. You did a great job overall picking a pace that you could perform comfortably at. You also showed off your range when it comes to pacing wonderfully. That said, the beginning of the script featured more rapid fire reads whilst the back end of the read was much slower and more deliberate. Were we to hit this again, I would have you choose between either style as opposed to giving both in one take.
This is a fantastically done read here Derek, well done sir! Looking forward to listening to more!
