Confident. Dry wit, with occasional frustration bleeding through. Sounds like someone who’s always two steps ahead but gets thrown off when people surprise her.

Skylar is sharp-tongued, brilliant, and just a little too sure of herself.
She’s an investigative journalist who’s made a name for herself exposing corruption and holding people accountable but recently, her prose has been… well, unreadable. Her editor calls it “hostile poetry.” The final straw? A scathing 5,000-word article about a council meeting, written like a war memoir.

So now, she’s being forced into a “soft skills” book club to "reconnect with human emotion." A punishment in disguise.

Skylar hates liars, she believes truth is everything even if it hurts.
But as she’s pulled into a deeper mystery behind the book club’s members, she’s forced to question: is the truth always worth the cost?

• Empathetic, but buries it under sarcasm.

• Brilliant, but hard to work with.

• Blunt, because she thinks sugarcoating is dishonest.

• Believes she knows best, which gets her into conflicts (and trouble).
