Sylvan generally has a very calm and quiet, sort of scholarly kind of demeanor, but under the right kind of pressure he very easily snaps like a twig. Or like a Prince Rupert's Drop. Elaborate metaphors aside, Sylvan (as well as Ben) were child prodigy scientists who were hired by the government to make a time machine. The pressure that came with this work was a large contributor to his eventual drug problem, which he still struggles with many years later. It was his suggestion to run away using the very device he was hired to create, and since then, his life has been quite eventful.
