Homura is the true main protagonist of PMMM, while also being the main character of Rebellion.
Back before the series began, she was a shy and sensitive girl, who saw Madoka as her only friend. After seeing the terrible mess that Madoka would later get herself into, she wishes that she would protect Madoka at all costs. She becomes a magical girl, and begins using firearms, too!
After witnessing Madoka's fate one too many times, she becomes an edgy goth, and proceeds to attempt to stop Madoka from becoming a magical girl in the first place! Spoiler alert: she ultimately fails in her mission, and relunctantly allows Madoka to become a magical girl!
However, in Rebellion, it seems as though she's still not over Madoka just yet! She wants to be with Madoka.. FOREVER! So she decides to put a stop to Kyubey's sinister plan and become a goddess herself. This, however, worked too well, and now Homura (at least not here) is a demon.
