Tsubo for Toby Harper
Toby is an openly gay male, who falls in love far too easily. He can be friendly, but fly into a jealous rage in the blink of an eye. Although, he can try his hardest to try to remain a character of light, he does have darkness inside him that is awaiting its time to be released.
You must be comfortable voicing an openly gay character, but for the best representation and understanding of this character, it may be more suitable for someone who identifies as an openly gay male. Submissions are also welcome from those who don't though, as long as you can get into his mindset.
Age/gender - 22 male.
Accent - British preferred, American accepted. Not a thick dialect, but also not elegant.
Must have clear audio
Pay is £20 per episode this character has lines in. It isn't a flat rate for all the episodes they are in.
This role was cast, but the VA has quit voice acting completely now. Please see the link for the type of voice I am looking for. Please note that the original VA was cast as he was the closest to my vision of the character, so it needs to be as close as possible to this.

Context - Unfortunately, the original VA has deleted their profile, so I can't link the original audition here, to see how he got the role.
Line 1 - Toby is very much in love here. He is speaking of what would happen if Jamie were to die. He is very much loved up and in his own mind when speaking this. Although it would mean Jamie would need to die for this to happen, the thought of what Toby says makes him happy and excited. Line 2 - Toby is having an argument with Kimberly, who he thinks she is trying to steal her man. He is very jealous about this. The scene can be heard in the above linked video in the Angry Toby timestamp.
Line 3 - Toby feels as though Jamie has been stringing him along and now realizes Jamie doesn't want him. He is utterly heartbroken at this news, but angered and upset too. He wants the guard to arrest him for stealing his heart and breaking it. Please see the 08:24 Very upset and heartbroken Toby timestamp in the video above for reference.
Please note that Toby is in the show for a long time. He is crucial to the main story, so commitment to this role is required. You can still take on other shows obviously, but this character can't be written out at any point before his planned end. Too many recasts spoil immersion for the viewers, and I can't keep affording to pay new cast members for all previous lines right now to stop this.
Also take note that the show is dark and gritty. Although there are no sex scenes in the show, there are talks of them. There is an arc in which Toby is sexually assaulted., This is not heard, but is spoken of. You must be ok with voicing in scenes like this. I do not shy away from topics that need to be addressed in this show in the slightest. I do not like treading on eggshells around them as if they don't matter.

Line 1 - A little more loved up and hopeful. This would be his dream come true, even if it is at the expense of Jamie nearly dying. He is truly in love with him.
Line 2 - Toby is in a jealous rage here. He thinks Kimberly is stealing his man. Unfortunately, quite a bit of this line in both takes sounded more like a read than acting it to me. The 'air balloons' part is to give a little more of a description for viewers to imagine the character. Toby is referring to her huge breast implants.
Line 3 - In take 1, there were times it sounded more like you wanted to laugh. I advise you to take a look at the reference video for this one, timestamped heartbroken Toby, as this is what I'm looking for here. I couldn't hear the emotions needed here, and I need more realism as this sounded a little animated.
I will say though that a transgender character will be coming into the show later down the line, a while away yet though, which I will be looking for an actual transgender female to voice as I also need them to be an advisor so I can script the character realistically, not through ignorance and creating a stereotype that may cause more damage than it would educate on the struggles of transgender people.
Appreciate the feedback! If you would like, I can do a retake on these after studying the character a little more and following the direction provided? As for your trans character, I would be happy to assist as much as I can, and would love to audition for her voice when that time comes.
Sorry for the huge delay with my response, work is overwhelming me at the moment. I finish one thing, another 3 to be done gets added.
Resubmissions are always welcome. I will be leaving the call up one extra week once I finish going through the submissions. I think they can still be uploaded, the project just isn't shown on CCC at that time if I have it correct.
Regarding the transgender character, male to female, an authentic transgender person will be given priority so I don't do what may others do, even movie companies, and script in ignorance. Hearing what they go through and living it are two very different things. I want to portray the character realistically, with real struggles. Please take note though that the show is hard hitting so it doesn't tread on eggshells. They may have to act out the harder things they have been though, bringing all this back to the forefront of their mind again. I am all about showing the harsher side of life and its struggles. Highlighting the issues, rather than treading gently as though they do not matter as many companies do today.
I totally understand, lofe has a way of testing us at times. Hope things have calmed down somewhat for you!
I won't be able to record until Tuesday, so I am happy to resubmit reads and take your feedback into consideration! If things close before then, I'm not worried as I'm sure you have a lot of other great submissions for the roles, though I do hope I can get everything in on time.
Regarding your trans character, I appreciate someone who is willing to give the character a proper story and let them be voiced by someone who has lived experience as a trans person and not a cis actor who may not fully understand the trials of life as a trans individual. If/when you post for voice work for your trans character, I look forward to auditioning! It would make me so happy to audition for a character that can tell her story and show people the experiences of what they go through.
