She suffers from what is supposed to be dissoactive personality disorder, where she has two different personalities. As Mahiru, she is a shy and timid girl who often has trouble speaking for herself. She is easily subject to bullying, and is often defenseless. However, when the sun sets, Mahiru's alternate personality, Shinya Banba, appears. Shin'ya is the complete opposite of Mahiru.. In contrast to her host personality, Shinya has an aggressive and borderline insane appearance.

Her voice as Mahiru is high and Timid whereas her voice as Shinya is more medium tone and rough.
