Class Session 2
Kade Vox for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
Good job. You did very well with not getting tripped up during your read.
0:01 I hear “Peder” instead of “Peter”
0:04 Read “modeling models” instead of “molding models”
0:15 I don’t hear the word “on”
0:19 “from what he usually made” It feels like the words were run together and quickly spoken. Be sure to go slow enough that you can fully and clearly pronounce all of the words. (Typical comment)
0:25 Mispronounced “jotting”. Don’t be afraid to look up how to pronounce words online if you aren’t familiar with them. Some great reference sources include Cambridge Dictionary (https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/), youglish.com, forvo.com and You Tube Videos among other places (there’s a lot of options out there). You can simply type in “How to pronounce [word]” in Google search and it should give you several references.
0:51 “dreaming about the things he drew” feels like the words were run together and quickly spoken.
0:56 Missed word “of”
1:09 “but he no longer cared” feels like the words were run together and quickly spoken.
Be sure to quality check your work after recording to ensure you correctly performed the script. It is very important to many casting directors to have voice actors accurately read the written copy (script).
For the purpose of this homework to work on articulation and enunciation, (particularly for P, T, and D sounds for this exercise script), I feel like there is still room for improvement. Be sure to fully pronounce the words including the ending letters and work on that articulation and enunciation to be clearly understood. Really hit the letters of P, T, and D in this exercise no matter where they fall within the word. For example, the word “little” be sure to hit those “t’s” harder when you are practicing articulation exercises. Try over-enunciating and over-articulating like Burger showed in class with the cork trick. Being able to adjust the level of articulation in your read from very precise to normal everyday talking is an excellent tool to have in your voice acting toolbox. Keep practicing this skill as it will be an invaluable asset in voice acting as you continue along your journey.
I think your reads will also benefit very much from slowing down the pace and really focusing on saying all of the words clearly. Keep working with the tongue twisters and practicing the SOVT exercises to increase your stamina. Work on projecting as well. If you didn’t get a chance to practice Week 1’s homework on projection, that is also a very good exercise to do. Pretend you are in a gym full of people and don’t have a microphone. You need to push air out from your diaphragm and speak clearly and loud enough (project) so the back corners can hear you too.
Your audio is also a tad bit quiet. For yelling/loud speaking, aim to have your waveform peaks between -9 and -3 dB, and for normal talking between -12 and -6 dB.
Keep up the good work! Great start!
