Saul is a over-ambitious CSX GP38-2, his number is #2813. He was built in June of 1979 for Conrail was numbered #8279. He would be given to CSX during the joint acquisition of Conrail in 1998. He would often be bullied in his days on Conrail for enjoying switching in the yards. That would change after a bigger engine pushed him into the back of a train he was shunting which made go head first into the freight car. Which changed him significantly, making him believe he should take on bigger jobs that way he can impress everyone else. He is often quick to anger when insulted for shunting duty, he is especially a victim of Bruce's bullying. (Which as mentioned, Rod sticks up for him.) But he does have a softer side for animals, he sometimes admires the forest nearby the yard when he is off-duty and enjoys the peace and quiet. He is very empathetic for the animals that live there.
