Good work with envisioning the context of the scene.

Your audio has some odd artifacting like it’s been overprocessed. Suggest reducing post processing. Often raw files are all you need. Feel free to DM me or Manuel Fluency (another engineering VO Companion) if you’d like some additional help in dialing in your audio quality.

I don’t hear you reacting to your audience of students - your comments indicate you’re speaking to students who don’t necessarily agree with you. So, when you get some funny looks or glares at what you’ve stated at certain parts, wouldn’t you react somehow? Perhaps a little defensively? Or, respond with your next words a little more confidently or with more insistence and energy? Our audience’s reaction can affect how we deliver the lines. Adding change-ups/variations to pacing, emotions, pre-life, tone, pausing, and inflections to the read can help to make it sound more real.

Don’t be afraid to put even more energy and emotions into the read and have an opinion on what you’re saying. Often what we think is over the top or too much, really isn’t. So, go for it. Put the energy and enthusiasm into it. You can always dial it back if it’s really too much, but do a take that’s over the top and see how it sounds. The VA 201 class will likely be a great resource for you to further play with the emotional rollercoaster and how it can be incorporated into voice acting if you haven’t taken it already.

The word “bringing” in the last paragraph was a little slurred. Try to be aware of how words come out as you are speaking and do your best to make sure everything is clearly articulated. It’s okay to pause and do another take if you catch something that came out a little off. It’ll save time later on needing to do pick-ups.

You have a nice dignified tone to your voice and style. I could definitely hear you in commercials, explainer/e-learning or corporate reads.

Keep up the great work!

Yes on the help with audio. I now have an AT875R shotgun mic and that has made my sound much better along with my new booth setup. I hear, when the audio is raw, a sound that I can't identify. When applying NR I still hear it a bit but the kicker is I only hear it after I upload it to P2P sites like Voices.com and Backstage.com.

If I listen to it locally I don't hear it or not as much. I've shortened my XLR cable from 3 meters to 1.5 meters, found fans and other gear and make sure those are off.

I'm working with limited space so finding a way to keep my booth up 24/7 is going to take some planning. I think if I could keep it up I would be able to produce the same quality sound consistently by treating the space better.

I believe setup and tear down introduces quirks each time.

I am planning to take the VA201 class but would love it if there was a course that addresses Narration, Documentary, and Commercial work. I realize Character work is what folks love and I want that also but I think my strengths lie elsewhere. I'll stop prattling on here. Thanks for the feedback.
