Excellent backstory/scene you have envisioned.

Well done! Loved the moments you added - the breaths, the slow whispers, the voice cracking, the emotion. Changes of pace and volume. Beautiful. I could totally see this as a video game character in a cut scene.

Ignoring the words, this sounds more like a sorrowful mother mourning the recent loss of a child (perhaps in the last month or so), and is convincing if I imagine it to be that. I don't think anyone would feel this strongly about an abstract concept like space colonization. You clearly have the ability to dial up your emotions though, so good job on that.
