Nicely done! Great projection with your read!

Your audio feels a little on the loud side. You may want to turn down the gain a little bit. Try to set your gain so that your normal talking peaks are between -18 dB and -6 dB and your yelling/loud talking peaks fall between -9 dB and -3 dB.

I also hear some distortion in your audio indicating you may have peaked/clipped. A useful trick is to “ride the gain” if you expect you might be getting louder, turn your gain down a little bit to accommodate for the extra loudness, and then turn it back up to normal as you return to normal talking. Making these “real time” adjustments to your gain could save you another take or pick-ups potentially. It’s a skill and worth practicing.

0:32 I hear “received” instead of “receives”

1:03 The last sentence ending in “volleyball opens” felt a little choppy and like you may have been running out of breath a little. Keep practicing with the SOVT exercises to increase your stamina and breath control as this will help make it a little easier.

1:20 missed word “a’

To take it to the next level, think about how fast things happen in sports in real time. Imagine the scene playing out in your mind - you are seeing all these actions and then you are reacting to them naturally while quickly explaining it to your audience. How would a live event announcer have spoken these words? Think about how you can make your performance feel even more authentic and genuine. Think about the who, what, where, why, when, how of the scene to bring it to life even further.

Lastly, per Burger’s request in the homework: Who was the audience you were speaking to?

Keep up the good work!

    Hi Melody,

Thank you so much for the detailed and thoughtful feedback. I really appreciate the time you took to go over everything so thoroughly.

I’m glad to hear the projection was strong! I thought it was but am still learning to work with Audacity so I’ll definitely revisit my gain settings and monitor my levels more carefully. I hadn’t realized the audio was clipping, so your suggestion to “ride the gain” is really helpful—I'll start practicing that technique so it becomes more intuitive over time.

Thank you as well for pointing out the script deviations and breath control issues. I’ve been working on the SOVT exercises and will continue to build stamina and consistency. I also appreciate the note about the pacing and tone in relation to live sports—envisioning the scene in real time makes a lot of sense, however, I thought I was doing that. I'll try to do better next time.

As for the audience, I envisioned speaking to a general sports-viewing audience watching a televised broadcast, enthusiastic but needing clarity and quick context, especially for fast-paced moments. My family and immediate social circle are not sportsball fans so I didn't have a specific person in my life in mind when I did this piece.

Thanks again—I’m learning a lot and excited to keep improving!
