Class Session 3
Michael Dunlap for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
Nice read! Your word pronunciation and confidence were really solid and clearly on display here! The only thing I caught was a very easy mistake to make that I myself make all the time, at 0:08, you said "through" instead of "though."You had great projection! To improve on that, don't be afraid to slow down your speech. Paradoxically, the slower you speak, the more people will hold onto your words, rather than making them impatient ;) It's a difficult habit to break, but it really helps. To take things to the next level, imagine who you are in the scene, and why you might be speaking. You might take on a wistful tone, smile (physically smile) at a part of the read that references a fond memory of the character. And don't be afraid to vary your tone! People talk all over their range all the time, it's a great way to make a read more engaging to listen too! But that's higher level stuff, this was already pretty solid!! :D(I didn't hear the tongue twister. I think I read in the discord that Burger wants that to be part of the recording too, but I'm sure it would be fine to just upload a second "audition/application" of you reading the tongue twister)Cheers mate! Keep at it!~ (Sorry this is a lump of text, it won't post with my paragraph formatting :p)
Really nice read! I could tell you were working on the enunciation and articulation and the majority of the words came through clearly and well pronounced. Your pace was a little quick. If you slow it down a little bit more, it becomes easier to articulate and speak clearly. You can kind of relax into the read and really take the time to feel the script and the emotions in it and let them surface as you read. When we smile as we talk our facial expressions come through in the read - you can literally hear it when someone smiles as they speak - similar with other facial expressions and even the physicality we use will affect how we read.
To take it to the next level, think about the who, what, where, why, when, how of the scene to bring it to life even further. Add emotions and feeling to the read. Think about how you can take the script and speak it from your heart genuinely and authentically while you tell your audience about Mrs. Mary Nillimore. Being able to deliver a performance that doesn’t sound like you are reading a script is the ultimate goal with voice acting.
0:09 read “through” instead of “though”
0:21 I hear “gredients” instead of “ingredients”
Lastly, per Burger’s request in the homework: Who was the audience you were speaking to?
Keep working with the SOVT and breathing exercises to increase your stamina and breath control.
Great job overall! Keep up the good work!
Forgot to include this, but I imagine I was talking at a funeral or a wake.
