Nice read! You had some wonderful moments that felt very real and authentic. Who was the audience you were speaking to during your read?

0:05, 0:45, 0:50, 1:17, 1:26 read “miss” instead of “missus”. There is a difference between “Ms., Miss, and “Mrs.”. A small point, but important for differentiation. :)

0:07, 0:11, 0:46, 0:52, 1:18, 1:27 I hear “Nill-more” instead of “Nill-i-more”

0:11 read “times” instead of “time” - be careful about adding or removing “s” from the ends of words in the script.

0:17 can’t hear the “k” in “cook” - be sure to fully pronounce the words so they can be clearly understood (similar comment at 0:18 for the “t” in “mint”

0:19 mispronounced “macaroons”

0:23 read “food” instead of “foods”

0:34 added word “me”

The sentence starting with “She bought” felt a little choppy - would be worth another take in a real audition or actual gig. Sorry to hear you have a cold too, that’s probably what added to the challenge in the read and the “gaspy” breaths. If you encounter a scenario like this in an actual gig, you may want to lower the breaths if they start to stand out as a repetitive pattern during your editing process. You will also want to edit out any sniffles in an actual audition/gig as well. Doing additional takes or taking pauses between sections to catch your breath and recenter yourself may help too. (Hope you’re feeling better soon!)

0:44 read “perhap” instead of “perhaps”

0:49 loved the smile you gave when you read the line about “her mighty smile”! Our facial expressions as we read definitely come through in the recordings. :)

0:59 read “toffee” instead of “toffees”

1:03, 1:25 felt like a little bit of a trip up on the words - might be worth another take in an actual audition or gig

1:08 the “s” in “was” didn’t come through very well - are you using a plug-in that might be taking out some of the letters/sounds in your recording? If so, you may want to back down the strength of the processing a bit to improve the final product. (similar comment at 1:12 with the “s” in “days” - it came out as “day” and 1:24 the “s” in “smile” disappeared)

1:14 You may want to add a little more space between paragraphs to make it sound more natural. It sounds like something was edited here.

1:15 read “I never forget” instead of “I’ve never forgotten”

1:29 misread “mangosteen”

Don’t be afraid to practice reading the script a few or several times to become more familiar and comfortable with the script. And then, quality check it after recording. Compare what you recorded with what was written and look at the details - were any words changed, added or missed? The more you practice improving the quality of your reads and your skill in cold reading, the easier voice acting becomes and the less editing that will need to occur on the back end.

Keep working on the articulation and enunciation of words. You can use the cork trick Burger showed in Class 2 for practicing over articulating. Really hit all of the sounds and letters in words to clearly pronounce them as you practice. Strong skills and muscle memory in articulation becomes a useful tool in the voice acting toolbox to use as needed for various characters and scenarios.

Keep up the good work!
