This book has been coming for a very long time. I first considered writing it back in the '80s but just never got around to it. It seems that life kept getting in the way. Put in military terms, it was OBE (overcome by events). As it turns out, waiting may have been a good thing. Now that I'm more mature (read: older), I have more to write about. That means there is more to share with my readers. Many books have been published over the years about transitioning from one sex to the other. Most were written years ago and have faded into history. However, people are still making the transition, so it seemed prudent to me to make my contribution at this time. If my experience and insights can help someone else make the journey successfully, I'll be gratified. Conversely, if I can keep someone from making a very tragic mistake, that will be even better. A lot of people have written about their transition from one sex to the other, and mostly, the emphasis has been on them. I will follow that format to some extent. However, there is more to consider. If all I do is tell you about myself, you may be entertained, but you will not be educated. I want you to come away with knowledge that will help if you're making the journey. If you're not making the journey, I want you to gain favorable insight into those who are. You may be surprised to find out you probably know some of them already, without having been aware. And you may be surprised or even shocked when you find out. Be comforted, the world will not end, and no one is going to die or turn into a monster. Things will be different to be sure, but given a decent chance, they can be the beginning of a great new adventure. Keep a positive attitude, try to be flexible and understanding, and you will find that you have grown in ways you never imagined. Here's to a wonderful journey.
