The Physician is an older woman serving as the healer for a small village. Isabella goes to her for help with her worsening health, but the physician has to deliver unfortunate news and does so in as delicate a way as she can manage. She cares deeply for those under her care.
NARRATOR: The Doctor examines Isabella’s wrist and her face grows somber. She offers Isa a handful of dry, reddish leaves. // PHYSICIAN: I want you to chew these for me, then spit into the rag and let me see the color.
ISA, heartbroken after a bad diagnosis: …What do I do now? // DOCTOR: You…should allow yourself to feel what you will. Grieve, if you must. But your journey is not over. Cling to what you have, and face the uncertainty with as much strength as you can. Gods bless the both of you. I wish I had a way to make this easier.
