The Grocer is a clerk at a small shop in a town that has been whipped into an anti-magic frenzy. They come across as nervous and a bit featful, especially when a clueless out-of-towner brings alchemy ingredients into their shop without realizing what that could mean if the wrong parties found out.
GROCER: I’m sorry, I was just about to close up. // MAN: I have some things to sell. I promise it won’t be long. // GROCER: Alright, needs to be quick. What’ve ya got?
GROCER: Sorry to say, but…I don’t think anyone will want to eat a…blue…what is this thing? [They pick up a jar.] // MAN: You’re not supposed to eat it, it’s an alchemy ingredient. // GROCER, anxious realization: Oh. You need to leave.
GROCER, uneasy: Ugh…it’s…it’s the temples. The ones belonging to the major gods, at least. They’re saying there’s some new threat to everyone, and they’re pointing the finger at anyone with a whiff of magic about them.
