That was fun! I just left it as raw as possible, but am curious if I should have done any noise reduction or noise gate? I typically don't do much else, but should I have normalized?

Thanks, sorry I thought I submitted this to the description, but it didn't take.

To answer your question, your audio sounds very clean overall, so I wouldn’t worry too much about noise reduction. It was also plenty loud enough, and appears to be in the proper range - at least as demonstrated with this audio file, so probably don’t need much further normalization.

You said it was "as raw as possible" however, it does look like quite a bit of processing was applied to it when you look at the spectrogram view of the file. May I ask, what microphone are you using and what does your setup look like? What DAW are you using and if you are willing to share - what plug-ins did you apply? Overall, the sound is very good as-is.

I actually just recently started using Adobe Audition. I used the Waves NS1 Noise Reduction but that was it. I use the Rode NT1 mic and Scarlet Solo audio interface. I didn't normalize at all. I'm not really sure why my spectogram was so uniform, but I marked the spot where I was standing and just stood there for every take.

If you are ever asked for "raw" files, you will not want to run the noise reduction on it. But otherwise, it sounds like you have a solid setup to work with! Are you working within a treated recording space already? If you can get your room tone down to -60 dB, you may need very little noise reduction (or none at all!) - which is the industry standard.

I'm actually recording in my closet currently, but I'm planning to build a treated space in my basement in the next few months. And oh my gosh thanks for telling me what's the normal floor. I think my standard buzz is about -55db, but know what I need to get it down to is good. Thank you so much for the feedback 😁

Excellent read! Good pacing, good variation - your enunciation and articulation was well done to make sure all of your words were clearly understood. There was only one minor thing that caught a lot of people:

0:39  “Entrée” was read as “entry”. Be careful about changing the words in the script. :)

Other than that, for the purpose of this homework to work on projection, I felt that you did an excellent job practicing this quality. Well done.

Fantastic emphasis, excellent oomph and projection. A very clean read. The audio sounded great.
