Class Session 1
Melody Rainelle

For the purpose of this homework to work on projection, I felt you did an excellent job of working on this quality. As you continue on your journey, keep working on your stamina/endurance and breath control and it will get easier. :)

This was a great start! Everyone starts somewhere and that’s perfectly good! The following is some constructive feedback to help you grow as you continue along your voice acting journey:

0:03 “style” instead of “styles” minor word change. The words that have “s” at the end and “s” at the beginning of the next one can be challenging. A good way to ensure you pronounce the entire word is to slow down a little so you can comfortably leave enough space to say both words naturally.

0:03 “convenience” was kind of slurred a little. Try to enunciate a little more clearly to pronounce the entire word.

0:04 “economy” was read as “economic” be aware of changing the words in the script

0:22 When you trip up or misread (happens to everyone and it’s okay!), it’s highly encouraged to start again at the beginning of the sentence or paragraph or a point that would make it easy to remove and replace the mistake during editing. If you just keep going and don’t return to a solid point that makes it easy to edit out the mistake, you may need to come back later and re-record, and it becomes challenging to make it sound the same as the original recording. So, a good rule of thumb is to record so that it’s easy to edit later.

0:24 I hear “riss” rather than “risk” just another item to be aware of for enunciation to fully pronounce the word.

0:27 “Entrée” was read as “entry”. Be careful about changing the words in the script. :)

0:29 “hidden” was slightly mumbled - be sure to clearly pronounce all the words. It’s okay to slow down a little when needed.

0:30, 1:22, 1:47  “purchase” instead of “purchases” - minor word change

0:31 missed the word “on” in “no one will call on you”

0:32 “payments” not fully pronounced

0:38 read “offers” instead of “offer”

0:40 read “supply” instead of “supplies”

0:48-0:54, 1:44 When you stumble or misread - it’s perfectly okay. Just stop and go back and re-read that line and correct the mistake before you move forward. The mistake can then be edited out after recording.

0:56 For repeated words, look for ways to say the words differently - “change-up” to keep it interesting.

1:04 sounds like “experience” rather than “experienced”

1:08 read “that is” instead of “that’s” minor word change

1:15, 1:33 read “luxurious” instead of “luxury” - be careful of changing the script. When reading auditions in general, do pay attention to not changing words in the copy for at least one of your takes. It’s okay to make some changes or play around with the script and include improv, but it’s also important to be able to read copy as written - after all, the writer may have chosen the wording in the script for a particular reason and could possibly be offended at having it changed by someone just hired to voice it - so just bear that in mind.

1:21, 1:47 script change “yours for just asking” instead of “yours for the asking”

1:25 be aware of hitting your mic during recording. If this happens, please re-record that section as it is difficult to edit it out after the fact.

1:27 minor script change - “we will” instead of “we’ll”

1:35 “gourmet” was kind of slurred, try to clearly enunciate the full word

1:38 odd break/pacing/breath in “key ring … magnifying glass and garden hose” - may be worth another take if you hit an odd pacing/stride in your read

It’s okay to slow down your read - be sure to read at a pace where you can clearly enunciate and fully pronounce all of the words rather than just trying to get through the whole thing. Practice reading out loud and focusing on enunciation - the more you do it the easier it will become.

Keep up the good work! Be sure to come back and listen to this homework at the end of the class - I am confident you will see growth and improvement in your skills and abilities by the end of the six weeks! :D

Thank you for the feedback. I will work on slowing down and pronunciation I will try my best to improve in the future
