Class Session 1
Jayme Lecoeur for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
Good energy. I like it.
Thank you!
Good work! Strong start.
0:44 You kind of giggled at “entrée” fee during your read. If this were an actual audition or a recording that would be used, you may want to provide another take without the giggle, or re-record that section. When you misread (happens to everyone and it’s okay!), it’s highly encouraged to start again at the beginning of the sentence or paragraph or a point that would make it easy to remove and replace the mistake during editing. If you just keep going and don’t return to a solid point that makes it easy to edit out the mistake, you may need to come back later and re-record, and it becomes challenging to make it sound the same as the original recording. So, a good rule of thumb is to record so that it’s easy to edit later.
0:49 “no one will call on you” was kind of run together a bit, just something to be aware of to enunciate and clearly pronounce all of the words
1:10 “mileage” was mispronounced as “mill-eage”
1:52 “pick up” was slightly slurred/run together - just something to be aware for enunciation/clearly spoken words
2:29 odd break/pacing/breath in “key ring … magnifying glass and garden hose” - may be worth another take if you hit an odd pacing/stride in your read
2:30 be aware of running words together “genuine imitation leather…”
For the purpose of this homework to work on projection, I felt you did an excellent job of working on this quality. As you continue on your journey, keep working on your stamina/endurance and breath control and it will get easier. :)
Nice job overall!
Omg!! Thank you so much for the detailed message! I LIVE for this kind of feedback haha
I did want to say that I normally would not ever submit an audition with errors like interrupting myself mid-sentence or the "key ring...magnifying glass" stumble (this one I was aware that I didn't read well), because I'll usually record a few takes and edit together something I'm satisfied with, but I interpreted Burger's comments about wanting to hear where we're at/how we deal with mistakes or stumbles as an invitation to submit something that wasn't completely smooth (and also getting advice on things that are harder to nail from the get-go is always a plus!). This was definitely a test on my stamina haha
Also thank you for pointing out my "mileage" mispronunciation! Hahaha Every now and then I will discover that my French has been making me say an English word wrong all my life because of emphasis placement or direct translations, it's always very funny to me. But now I know how to say it properly in English and will not make the mistake again! Thank you!!
This was basically my first attempt ever at voicing an ad, you're definitely right that my weak endurance and breath control need to be worked on -- probably played a part in my slurring a few words together so I wouldn't run out of breath or cause my voice to break. I'll work on it! I got back to exercising at the beginning of last week, and I've been trying out the SOVT exercises, too, since yesterday.
I really appreciate all your input, Melody! Thank you so much!! Means a lot. <3
