The Purgatorians recasting call | Original ambitious audio drama
Sumara Meers for Raven Gosse
Current Plot line - She is acting as a double agent for the Purgatorians and Abraham.
Main character who requires a lot of commitment as she is in the show a long time and can't be written out because she is tied to the main story in a huge way
Female - 25-35 - Elegant British accent like Morrigan's in Dragon Age (Please see video). Those with a British accent will be considered before an American accent, but if all else fails, an American accent will suffice if I'm forced into it. She is heavily inspired by Morrigan, so please make sure you can provide the tones she speaks in. Don't make the delivery flat please. Clear audio only please.
Raven is sarcastic and condescending to all but Abraham and Demetrius. She believes herself to be above everyone else in the group. She can manipulate people to do things her way quite easily. I would like her to have sharp wit and mocking and condescending tones like Morrigan in Dragon Age. She is mean through sarcasm and jest, not mean directly.
Raven would see humor as a weakness and would not chuckle unless she found something absolutely ridiculous or was embarrassed, such as when she thinks she is getting flattered as she is not used to such things happening. Keep her sarcasm on show as well as her bluntness, she always cuts straight to the point.
Please see this video to see how Morrigan speaks. If you need more examples, just look up Morrigan, Dragon Age.

(Friendly) I am not sure whether he knows that or not, it was never mentioned however we both know Abraham likes to hold his cards close to his chest, especially where the council is concerned. He may know more than he is letting on however I will act as a double agent, acting on behalf of both you and my uncle.
(Condescending, mocking) Oh, I underestimated you. You can try my dear but you will never be able to see the real me, I will continue to amaze and surprise you throughout our journey. Everytime you think you have figured me out, something will happen that will blow your theory into the tiniest pieces. I would not even bother trying.
(Condescending, mocking) I speak to him as his superior whereas you all stumble upon your words. You show him you hold no confidence and he will not see this as a true formation until you do. You remember what you said to me outside the church Jamie? How official you sounded? This needs to be applied to all those who try to undermine your authority. When we tried to gain access to the barracks you acted like a little puppy who had just urinated in his masters shoes.
Line 1 - I never heard any faults here at all. You have literally matched the best audition we have so far and now it will be very difficult to choose between the two of you based on this line.
Line 2 - I loved this one too. I couldn't really hear any problems with it.
Line 3 - This was fine too.
You may have just prolonged Ravens casting lol. The make or break thing will be commitment and how comfortable you are acting in a show with such dark and hard hitting stories.
Raven is in the show for a very long time, although not in every episode, and recasts will ruin viewers immersion. Could you commit to the role?
Although set in a fictional world, so no real world politics, I want to highlight the issues that still plague our world, not sugarcoat or gloss over them as though they don't matter. Although the stories can be very dark and gritty, each of them serve to move the main story forward, or a characters story, or character development. These are not thrown in just for shock factor. There are no sex scenes at all, I prefer to make the audience aware it's leading up to this but leave the rest to their imagination, but there is talk of consensual and none consensual acts. One story needed to completely break a character was explained to one VA and given the option to walk away if not comfortable with it. The extremely delicate stories like this will be given to the cast to scrutinize and rewrites will be done based on feedback in this case.
If you still want to go ahead, I will start pondering which of you best suits the role, but it will be a very tough decision to make.
Thank you very much! What fabulous feedback. :)
I'm perfectly okay with dark, hard hitting, delicate etc. Love the idea! And I don't see any issues with a long term commitment.
I would just want to discuss the budget and scope of work. Is your listed budget per episode? And how many words/lines anticipated per ep? Happy to chat details in DMs. :)
I can't give you a word or line count unfortunately as my scripting software does not do that. I will be upgrading to better software at some point with more functions but as of yet the cast payments must come first without delay. I forgo any kind of luxuries for this. Even my chair is falling apart and springs are sticking out of my mattress.
I get roughly £1000 per month before living costs are reduced. A season costs £65,000 minimum. I have to pay bills and food first out of the £1000. Then I have subscription and licensing costs needed for the show to be deducted as well. It does contain real songs from our world to make it more realistic and believable. I have 46 characters in total over the prequel and main show, not counting extras, not all in each episode, that's roughly between 15-20 mostly. Then there are the audio engineer and video editor too. Later down the line singers and musicians are added to this list also.
Cast are prioritized with the payments first, then the licensing costs after subscription costs leave my account.
Unless the show is monetized production is moving along slowly, possibly 1 episode every 2 months right now if the are 15+ characters in an episode. I would like to move this up to every month without fail, and if the show did go way beyond making enough profits to allow me to increase pay to indie rates standards to £2 per line, I would love to see production increased to 1 episode every 2 weeks.
it's £20 per episode you have lines in for the foreseeable future, but the plan is, if we get enough profit to allow this, we will switch to £2 per line instead, and this will also reflect the previous episodes lines as backpay.
The amount of lines you have will vary per episode, and you won't be in every episode, not even the MC is. One person got paid £20 for one line in an episode but this was made up for in another when they may have had roughly 30 lines.
I hope that makes sense but I can assure you production is ongoing right now and the only halt to production has been to collect and pay for lines that were sent very late to me. I had to do this in February as the unreceived lines seriously mounted up.
Okay thanks for the info. :)I really like the character and the project sounds great. If you're happy to allow at least a few working days to turn around each batch of lines, I'm good with that rate for now.Let me know how you go. :)
What happens with turnaround right now is if the are less than 15 characters in an episode all lines are requested at the start of the month, and the deadline is the end of the month.
If there are 15 or more characters in an episode, teams are created. Team A is as above and Team B the following month. People may freely swap teams with a member of the other team as long as both notify me that they agree to do this. Teams unfortunately will have to continue for as long as I'm funding the audio drama myself. If the show gets monetized, this will no doubt change and the teams dropped to everyone providing lines monthly.
Payments are then sent within 48 hours of a deadline ending. If payment is overlooked for anyone for whatever reason I do request they inform me immediately after 48 hours has gone by and I shall rectify this immediately. It very rarely happens, I think only once right now in 9 months and that was due to the lines coming in 5 months late so I accidently overlooked them when payments were sent. I never mean to miss a payment, I can promise you that.
I do however have to inform you that the casting for this closed on April 1st and casting for Raven was made yesterday. However, it was extremely difficult and took me many plays of the auditions to choose. I ended up going on the accent as both of your deliveries were fabulous.
There is a new recasting call up now, an urgent one, that also requires 2 females. This was from the same person who gave up Raven due to time commitments. These are 2 very different characters. One with a diminished mind, crazy and full of paranoid delusions, who needs a manic delivery. The other very cold hearted, heartless and sadistic, who needs a cold delivery. I would love it if you gave those a try.
