Class Session 1
Keith Anfinson for Role
Full details of homework is on Closing Credits
Slow down a bit. You were flying through the words without giving any moment for the audience to absorb what you were saying. I could also hear you running out of breath fast and the clarity getting diminished a bit. You want to speak in a natural flow like you talk to anyone else so that it stays as authentic sounding as possible, regardless of any character that you voice. There's no pauses or breath marks going on which are very important because that's what we all do when we really speak. I could also hear a lot of micro breaths between words which is also from the fast speaking.
It also sounds more like you're just reading the words from the script. You still want to think about your scene, who you're speaking to, etc. You want to have some sort of goal or some reason you're saying this to someone so that it helps you propel the performance.
There's no projection going on. We want you to project using your diaphragm and push your words out. Take a really big breath and fill up your lungs so you have all that air to get your words out, similar to shouting in a sense but really engaging your core. Keep working on your breathing exercises!
