He is urbane and can be as charming as necessary when doing so furthers his interest, but the façade falls away quickly when his true nature surfaces. His pride runs deep, and the abhorrence of failure and defiance often makes him snap into angry outbursts as soon as anyone crosses him. Beneath the veneer of hardness, his insecurity about his own worth compels him toward relentless exertion of control and mastery.

Role: In each appearance in Ninjutsu Saburo, Kazuo Kanagaki fills in for the grayness of ambition and obligation as an iconic nemesis. He was Shigeru's father, very cruel in mannerisms towards his own son; thus, Shigeru should make up as the perfect tool toward one's advancement and pride. His vicious, continued tormenting of Shigeru and complete, possessive obsession created Shigeru's awful life experiences.

Kazuo is a threat that keeps on coming. His criminal activities and underhanded dealings make him an obstacle to the protagonists on a whole different level. Besides, his toxic influence sharply contrasts with the nurturing and supportive relationships elsewhere in the story, serving to highlight the damage caused by selfish and abusive behavior.

Kazuo's eventual downfall becomes a critical turning point in Shigeru's character arc. In overcoming the shadow of his father, Shigeru not only recovers his sense of self but also shows the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
