Nagisa is a tiny alien, spoilers. It hit me like a train when this was revealed. She constantly and consistently misunderstands Earth's culture and customs, and coming from a militaristic background, she takes almost everything seriously, acting stoic, cold, and a stickler for the rules. This is a mask she puts on to hide her loneliness, being the only one of her kind on Earth.
I changed Nagisa's backstory, she's stranded on Earth on her own, forced to improvise and hide out on this planet until she fixes her ship.
- What was supposed to be a simple scouting mission had turned into 5 year stay on an alien planet. Nagisa is on the brink of breaking down, but while her time on Earth hasn't been negative or really dangerous she only experiences life inside a robot, unable to feel anything, but the cold steel and metal insides of the robot, seeing the world through screens, avoiding relationships to maintain her cover.
- When Nagisa notices Asahi has a crush Youko she grows jealous despite rejecting Asahi before, like the the anime, only now she has more of a reason to be jealous as the main reason she did this is because it would never work being a tiny alien in a robot suit. Regardless, she'll try burying these feelings, but this will eat at her throughout the series.

(Half-hearted laugh) All that for on little secret.
(Nagisa is angrily defending herself, very over the top) Wha-NO! Absolutely not! I hate him! Who would love a guy who goes straight to another girl a day after being rejected!?...(realizes she said this aloud in the school yard)...uh...sorry?
