Jacob Racette for Ageing Male Southern Shopkeeper
A southern man in his 60s who runs a general store by the roadside.
Should sound humourously stereotypical, like an "energetic old hillbilly / prospector" sort of character.
A chain-smoker who has a bit of grit / rasp in his throat, especially when laughing.
He's deliberately a comic-relief character, but has one moment of seriousness.
If you're able to make a "tooth whistle" while talking, that'd be a huge plus, but it's not necessary.

(Friendly / Greeting) "Don't get many young folks 'round here. Where you kids headed?"
(Laugh-transitions into friendly speech) "Ah, had ya goin' there... Nah, ain't no death curses or nothin'. We don't stand for no weirdness out here."
(Starts friendly) "Y'all take care out there, ya hear? Lotsa luck. (tone becomes serious) 'specially you, sweetheart. (tone becomes foreboding, like he wants to warn you without admitting what he knows) ...pollen season. Y'all look like ya got allergies. Don't go pickin' up nothin' ya can't put down, now."
