Dark Interval
Steven for Eli: Senior Male [key character]
One of the main characters with a large amount of lines. The role requires nuanced emotion with occasional dramatic moments.
Age: mid-50s to early 60s. Eli is an experienced mechanic living in the lonely wilderness, in a shelter that only has him and his robot companion, Dog.
Once an enthusiastic and extroverted person, he is weighed down by deep melancholy, speaking in a weary tone, that ranges from warm and friendly, to grim rage. The main inspirations/references for how he should sound are Leonard Cohen in his late years and The Deserter from Disco Elysium.
To put it short, he is your cool grandpa full of trauma, that you never truly get to know about.
His ethnic background is mixed and his exact country of origin is unspecified, to stay flexible. Preferably, we're looking for an accent from around the Mediterranean region (along the lines of French, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic; not Italian and not southern-slavic), but willing to compromise and settle on American or Australian accents.

[friendly sarcasm] They all told you to hit the road and get lost, haven't they?
[melancholic] Earth put up a fight that lasted all of seven hours. And most of that was the Combine fighting our living environment.
[subdued anger] I'm tired of waiting for the day I lie down and die from a heart attack.
