Totally agree. Maybe there should be a limit imposed on the number of moderating actions a single mod can do in a single day. For example, after approving 7 people's audio, denying 5 people's audio, and giving the seal of approval on 8 projects, the moderator sees a message saying "Thanks! You've done 20 things today. You've done your part. Go back in your Pokeball for a well deserved rest!" or something. Then worst case scenarios can be caught BEFORE they snowball into something affecting literally hundreds of members. Just a thought!
Yeah, I don't know. I think they have something going here that could be really good. The limit could be really helpful. But I think the most important thing is that all the mods are helping eachother and on the same page. The biggest problem in this situation was that no one agreed with anything (apparently) and everyone was in disarray. I don't want to be too mean with my 3rd part, hopefully it doesn't come off that way. I just believe it's very important to set things straight. Start what you finish you know?
Right. And I don't think it came across as too mean. Just blunt and honest. If everyone is afraid to speak directly, nothing gets fixed, so I think comments like that are important even if they aren't soft and fluffy.
Thank you for the reassurance! I don't really know how to make things fluffy so I'm glad it's well received.
Haha I think what would have worked better is if the Mod team had imposed a minimum number of verification per day lol. In all seriousness though the rest of the mod team is now helping me and Buford even brought on additional moderators to help. If you want to know how many verification requests we get a day, I think it's upwards of a hundred (I'm taking about both audio AND projects). The problem with limiting myself was if I ever took a break and went a few days without getting all of the verification requests done, several hundreds of them would pile up which would be a really shitty situation for me to have to deal with later (you wouldn't believe how much time I've spend doing verification for the site). We learned our lesson though and now will be splitting things much more evenly.
Thank you, well put
Yeah, no problem. I feel the pain just reading your post. Hope my post helped a little. Shit like that makes me angry dude. Shouldn't happen. :c
It helped calm me down from the place I was at after the whole encounter tbh, knowing someone at least understands where I'm coming from
ayyyy! c: Glad to hear! I've been where you're at right now. It fucking sucks and it's frustrating as all hell. Anything I can do to help you guys out, I'll go ahead and do it.
I just totally want to give you a hug. =,( I'm sure a lot of other people do, too!
Bless you, my dude. I may (with deep respect) disagree on the beginning bit (anything close to a tier system will create unrest, especially so close to CCCocalypse. I personally prefer a simple technical test of sound like noise floors and such.) but everything else was perfect. You cant very well expect to be in the same mood 356 auditions in than you were in the first 20. Studies show that Judges show much more favorable positions at the beginning of the day, after break, and after lunch than any other time. Why? because they're fresh, and not tired out. Cant go it alone. Cant feasibly do so much in little time.
Yeah if we have tiers then I'm gonna be stuck in Gold playing healer meanwhile everyone else goes Hanzo; never able to reach Diamond. All kidding aside, my mood honestly is always the exact same whether it's the first audition of the day or the hundredth (I'm not any harsher later on than earlier on). It's pretty monotonous work that I've gotten down to a system so I really do think I judge all projects and audio equally. I couldn't care less whether I like or don't like someone and I couldn't care less whether a project is an original animation or a Spongebob Fandub.
That last bit didn't have anything to do with what was being talked about here. Anyways, you could say something like that, but scientifically, there are subconscious effects at play. My argument was for you just letting people go because you wanted to finish or go faster or get other things done but you couldn't/wouldn't discern the quality of the mics. There were no set standards so it was even more at your whims than it would have been had there been a structured baseline. Things you don't even realize are happening while you're slugging at the work. I mean, you could feel like you're being totally impartial, but it just happens. And that's okay. You're a human, not a robot, and there are hundreds upon hundreds on hundreds of people wanting this verification badge. That's why more people should be doing this. Why weren't the other mods helping? Did they have other duties? Were you guys short staffed? You cant tell me you have it down to a system if this ended up happening. When was it this system was set in place? Very early? Late? Some time in between, so you wanted to go back and check if the other auditions passed your test? Then you found that they didn't and then this happened? That means you still passed some by whim which could have been affected by the massive undertaking. Again, it's understandable, but you cant be 100% sure you did it right, and then want to do a takesies backsies. EDIT: Listened to the audio file and this seems to somewhat be the case. I'll leave my post up though because doing otherwise is disingenuous. SECOND EDIT never played OverwatcH. Everyone I know does but I dont, so I kinda do get the joke but also Kinda dont. Sorry! D:
Listened to the whole thing, you definitely made some good points and unless maybe I missed something honestly I think I agree with everything you said. I think the audio post I made addressed a lot of what you said (and what others said) but I don't think anyone actually listened to it :/. In regards to how this shouldn't be a solo gig and I should get help; you're preaching to the quire. Ask the other moderators, they'll tell you I definitely have complained about the fact I've been singlehandedly moderating the site for months. Luckily as of a week or so ago not only are they helping out now but Buford has brought on additional mods as well (although admittedly I'm actually taking a break for a few weeks because I'm burned out with the voice acting community, can't say that the additional hate coming my way as of today really made me feel any less burned out DX).
This is so blunt and straight to the point and I fucking love it.
I try my best, sir! ;)
I love you steven :D
