Despite being skeptical of the existence of the supernatural, Kaneeka has always wanted to believe in magic, though this is rooted in her desire to leave town. This is reflected through her interest in magical girl series like Sailor Moon and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. Kaneeka also has a Piyomon plush among her other anime-merch, which also reflects the theme of wanting to leave or "get Isekai'd" as she phrases.

She does show up in chapter one. She is also a minor character, but she does help with the plot and story along.
