Orion for Derek
Derek wishes he had more time for his child, but he has to work so much to pay the bills. He's a lot more laid-back than Anna is, but he loves Charlie just as much. Derek loves to be the teacher and lesson-giver. He takes pride in getting to raise an actual human, his own little human, into a kind and compassionate strong individual, something he wishes the world had more of.

That's part of life. What's important is that we LEARN from stuff like this. When you choose to reflect and learn, you grow. Not just big and strong, but up here (pointing to his head). That way, the next time something scary or painful happens, it doesn't hurt so bad.
(Faded, a shell of his old self, meaningless words, cold) Because you're strong, string bean. Stronger than me or mommy ever could have dreamed of being.
Hi Gage! I liked this take on Derek! Your audio quality is great and you did well. Only thing I got for you is that for auditions specifically, if you're doing multiple takes, you're going to want them to be distinct to show off your range. Some casting directors are so harsh with writing people off that do multiple takes in the same style because they assume you won't be able to make adjustments. That might be so untrue. If you don't have any other ideas for the character or just simply can't do something else, that's fine! Just do one take then. Otherwise, you basically want to reinvent the character. Other than that, it just felt a little flat. Not terribly, but enough to take note of. Auditions tend to be vague. You don't have the context yet. It's up to us VAs to bring these characters to life. You need to really get into their headspace. Where does this guy work? How tired is he after work? How does he feel seeing his child upset? The more you get used to thinking about these things, the more they become subconscious thoughts before each audition. Cheers, I honestly think you did well and hope this helps you do even better :)
