Dewey, better known as The Defeatist Limited, is a small tender engine with a bad temper that pulls goods trains along the main line, but usually can be seen shunting his own trains.

Dewey used to work on a railroad located somewhere out in the Midwest, helping out with the freight traffic. Unfortunately, he had a bad habit of being incredibly reckless and being quite rude while pulling these trains. And in the year 1944, his reckless behavior caught up with him while he was trying to outrun a streamlined war train known as the Win the War Special and beat it to the junction. Dewey, going way too fast to be able to stop safely, saw the points were set against him, and crashed off the rails and literally fell to pieces as he attempted to stop.

While Dewey was rebuilt following his crash, the railroad director didn’t trust him to be safe with his trains and confined him to the roundhouse until a decision was made on what to do with him. And Dewey remained there for what felt like an eternity before being approached to be bought and to join the Swanson Fleet during the days of The Big Three. The railroad director wasn’t sure about this proposal at first, but Dewey promised to work hard and wouldn’t disappoint again.

So, Dewey was sold and worked for the Swanson Fleet until The Big Three merged into Transportainian Railway Co. He still works on the main line to this day. While he still holds his bad temper on more than one occasion, he’s no longer reckless when it comes to his work.

While is voice source is pretty much freelanced, one voice source that’s highly recommended for this character is Pat Buttram (an American actor and writer, who voiced many characters for Disney, including Napoleon in The Aristocats, the Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood, Luke the Swamp Mouse in The Rescuers, Chief the old Irish Wolfhound in The Fox and the Hound, Bullet 1 in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and the Possum Park Emcee in A Goofy Movie).
