Kazuichi Souda is a character in Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, and his title is the Ultimate Mechanic. Kazuichi is a bit of an emotional firecracker. Though he tries to act as a smooth and carefree guy, he tends to be very jumpy, gets scared easily, compulsive, and cowardly. He’s often described as having a bit of a garish and intimidating appearance, which conflicts with his loud and jumpy personality. He tends to speak with a bit of an unfiltered mouth, is not afraid to drop a few curses when speaking often speaks without thinking beforehand, and isn’t the brightest bulb in the shed in general. But if there is one thing he is good at, it’s machines. He likes to tinker around with anything he can find, often carrying a spare wrench with him at all times. Despite dealing with motion sickness, his favorite types of machinery he likes to operate and mess with are fast vehicles like rockets or bikes. Kazuichi can be a bit perverted and flirtatious towards women he finds interest in - especially if it’s Sonia Nevermind. However, this one-sided crush also is in poor taste because of his perverted tendencies), but also quite shallow - despite liking Sonia for her looks, he doesn’t like some of the personality traits she has or some of the hobbies she’s interested in, like her love and fascination with the occult. Despite these quirks, he seems to be one of the more “ordinary” students of this group, with his bright and colorful appearance and somewhat loud personality making him somewhat stand out. It’s even revealed that Kazuichi suffers from self-esteem and trust issues that stemmed from a friendship ending pretty poorly, which could explain his paranoia at the start, and the reason for his looks was so he could feel like he could stand out - not because it’s a style he particularly “liked,” per se. But once finding a friend in Hajime, he finally felt like he could have someone he could trust. But because of his trust issues, he can sometimes act a bit clingy. Despite his flaws, Kazuichi always can sympathize with those who died. Even if some deaths don’t affect him as much as others, he doesn’t shake any of them off regardless of who they are and how they treated them.

During his time as a remnant, Kazuichi invented and produced many dangerous machines used by the Despairs to spread chaos and destruction across the world. It’s also theorized (but never confirmed canonically) that he was also the person who built the executions for the killing game the cast of Trigger Happy Havoc witnessed/went through.

He will play a bit of a bigger role in the V3 Remnant AU! In this AU, Miu, Kazuichi, and Chihiro were all a “tech-savvy” trio and hung out pretty frequently. But once the tragedy hit, the three got separated - Miu becoming a remnant and participating in the tragedy, Chihiro is forced to participate in the killing game with their class (and like in canon, I do believe Chihiro dies here as well - I think all of the THH deaths are staying the same but I’ll need to make sure lol), and Kazuichi being stuck at the Future Foundation, forced to watch both of his friends go through something awful. This would hurt Kazuichi mentally A LOT - he possibly nearly fell into despair. But will he be able to overcome it save Miu and be able to honor Chihiro’s death?
