FATHER GABRIEL STOKES
AMOUNT OF ISSUES = 30
Gabriel Stokes, also known as Father Gabriel, is a survivor of the outbreak in The Walking Dead. He is a preacher who came across Rick Grimes and his group after leaving his church, where he had been hiding from the undead. Gabriel traveled with the group to Alexandria, where he became the head priest of the church located there. After overcoming his aversion towards violence, Gabriel lost all hesitation towards killing walkers, and joined Rick Grimes' militia against the Whisperers.
Gabriel Stokes was the reverend of a regional community church. Not much of his personality or life before the outbreak has been revealed. The only detail given by the reverend was when he admitted to Rick and the rest of the group that during the initial zombie outbreak, he locked the doors to his church due to his own cowardice and allowed a whole group of survivors to be killed by roamers.
As a priest, Gabriel is extremely religious and initially somewhat delusional. He is a very incapable survivor, relying on his faith in God rather than actual combat. He is also shown to be a coward, as during the start of the outbreak, Gabriel locked the doors of his church and refused to let his congregation in, leading them to be devoured by walkers. Gabriel is very remorseful for this act, and when Rick's group arrive and threaten him, he believes they were sent by God to punish him. As a way to uphold his religious beliefs, Gabriel is against acts of violence and murder. After witnessing Rick's group brutally murder the Hunters, Gabriel is outraged and angrily yells at them, despite the fact the Hunters had tried to kill them. After making it to Alexandria, Gabriel attempts to betray the group by trying to convince Douglas to exile them due to witnessing their brutality.
Slowly, Gabriel tries to redeem himself for his past actions. When a large herd of walkers invade Alexandria, Gabriel lets in Eugene and Nicholas into his church, in contrast to when he locked his congregation out. Eventually he lets go of his disdain against violence and decides to join the Militia as a way to thank Rick for what he's done for him. Gabriel is trained and becomes skilled in dealing with walkers. He takes every opportunity to help whenever he can. Unfortunately Gabriel's would somewhat revert back to his cowardly ways when he attempts to retreat after witnessing a large herd, causing him to accidentally fall off a ladder, leading to his demise.

Father Gabriel (Nervous but friendly) introducing himself to Rick's group with his bible at hand. "I'm Father Gabriel Stokes. I'm just a weary traveler, pleased to have found your company. I mean you no harm, I have no weapons of any kind."
Father Gabriel (Grateful/Proud) asking Rick to have Gabriel join the militia so he can help Alexandria a lot more. "I appreciate everything you've done for me. Giving me a home. Letting me take over the church, giving me a place to serve the lord. Now I want to serve in another way. I don't think it's enough to protect the souls of our people. I've done that and I feel I've done a good job. But I'm able... able to do more... able to really protect my flock. I feel like I could be of use to you... as a soldier. With your blessing... I'd like to start training with the others."
Father Gabriel (Broken/In tears/Feeling So Much Guilt) confessing to Rick the horrible act he did at the beginning of the outbreak. "I lock the doors at night. I always lock the doors at night, I always lock the doors... (Tries to hold back tears) They started coming in, the congregation. Atlanta was bombed the night before and they were scared. They were... They were looking for a safe place. A place where they felt safe. And it was so early, it was so early... And the doors were still locked. You see... It was my choice. But there were so many of them and they were trying to pry the shutters and banging on the sides screaming at me and so the dead came for them... (Deeply disturbed) Women... Children... Entire families calling my name as they were torn apart (Begins to sob) Begging me for mercy, begging me for mercy... Damning me to hell..."
