We won’t be looking for trouble, Seamus, that’s for sure. Thing is, sometimes trouble comes looking for you. The British are defeated, they say in Dublin. Out here, I’m not so sure. Ye see them lights yonder? Those are patrol boats, lad. It’s the Union of Britain, pokin’ and proddin’ our shores, huntin’ for any chink in our armor.
The Germans? [Scoffs]. They gave us a hand for a bit, that much is true. But German help has a price tag attached, boys. [Jeering] Do you reckon we can trust the Kraut’s Kaiser any more than we Irish could trust the British King? Seems in Eastern Europe, Asia and Africa they could tell you a thing or two about Perfidious Kaiserreich, innit! Oh yes, the Germans will gladly make deals with ye’ - and be fastenin' a noose 'round 'yer neck all the while. Germans. British. French. Syndicalists. Imperialists! I trust every one of them about as far as I can throw the bastards. Aye, make no mistake lads, those big guns there are pointed at the continent as much as we’ve got them pointed at the bleeding British! Right here is all I trust in this world. Irish men, bearing arms for our fair island.
