Moral/ethical beliefs: Brynjar is a firm believer in maintaining competency and protecting his ideals, which include sportsmanship, traditional values, working hard for success, and remaining true to mortality, humility and humanity. He's truly humble, and doesn't brag about anything he has ever done in his life. He's learned and grown from his old ways of warfare, such as relishing in bloodshed, but still believes that some people need to be put in their place if they're arrogant or proud.

Religious beliefs: Once a true believer in the Norse Gods, as it stands after years of traveling across the multiverse, he merely holds them close to separate himself from other's perspectives on spiritual manners. No longer literal, yet true to the God's lessons that he was conditioned to, such as being superhuman yet limited and imperfect, he is a traditional believer in fate, destiny, and imperfection.

  • While mortal, he has a superhuman base form that allows him to keep up with the other, powerful Chompas if he needs to

  • Brynjar is wise and knows much about the nature of life from his own perspective; he offers guidance that isn't decorated with pretty words but firsthand experience

  • If need be, he can utilize his lifeblood to increase stats to maintain a fair fight and a level playing field

  • Being mortal for a long time, he has not yet died in combat, thus proving his efficiency while traveling the multiverse

  • The more he ages, the stronger he becomes

Weaknesses:

  • He is mortal, thus he doesn't have access to Æthereal essence for transformations or more abundant powers

  • If he dies, he dies for good

  • He doesn't try to overwhelm his opponents in terms of combat stats, so if they're more talented or skilled than himself, he loses with dignity

  • While he does have an extended aging process, he can die by mortal wounds

Long term goals:

  • Live as long as he can, see all the sights that reality has to offer, and die in glorious battle when it's truly his time to go

  • Train his students, foreign and domestic alike, to pass on his stories, lessons, and skill sets so they may be truly competent and talented warriors

  • Reach his peak lifetime expectancy, which is 9000 years old

Events and History

History and background details

Brynjar was born on March 6th, 1032 near Jomsborg, Poland, in the same universe as Primus. When he turned 12 years old, Brynjar was part of a raiding party that traversed to Scandinavia, since his family was slaughtered by raiders that hailed from Denmark. He wanted revenge, and since he had no further attachments to anything back home, he would become a wanderer and a warrior for the remainder of his life. When he turned 18, and upon returning to his birthplace, he proved his worth to the Jomsviking order by finding the mercenary leader who had personally killed his parents. After defeating him in a blood feud, Brynjar would be welcomed in the order with open arms and found a new purpose in his life.

Life would be full of adventure and prosperity for the traditional warrior, as he quickly made a name for himself as a mercenary that would never fail to uphold the expectations above and beyond any who hired him to fight on their behalf. He'd work for anyone who could pay him top bullion, from chieftains to christian kings without bias, so long as the pay was substantial. He was keen on upholding the Jomsviking laws to a T, and when he turned 30, he took on the role as leader of the order after a night of passion he had with a woman during one of his travels. He wouldn't uphold this responsibility, though this discipline would change after he met someone he truly fell in love with later in life. The former woman would later give birth to Gabe Christiansen.

Eventually, Brynjar would raise a family outside of the order and wound up with a lovely wife, who bestowed upon him twin daughters. It would be folly to leave out the fact that he had to constantly jump through hoops to live this double life as leader of the Jomsvikings and a family man, though thanks to his persistent nature, he managed to juggle this quite adequately. Another factor in this life of his was a decade of quarreling with the Balderklan, who were quickly challenging the Jomsvikings as hired hands, in England especially. While pay was good from kings and other notable English factions to try and keep the Balderklan at bay from their influence and conquest, their mighty Úlfheðnar would become too big a deal to cope with unless countermeasures were put in place.

A decade of fighting and trial and error against the Balderklan taught Brynjar how to effectively fight against their unfair technological advantages, and thus created a form of fighting he dubbed 'mikill hjaldr'. Using traditional combat mixed with an abundance of competence, mastery of warfare, and adaptability, this form of fighting proved quite effective against the Úlfheðnar's Vættirtols, and while this was created too late for England to take full advantage of, it leveled the playing field substantially between the Jomsvikings and the Balderklan after they held Gwynedd. The Jomsvikings proved to be the only faction that stood a chance against these technologically advanced warriors in the region, and when the Jomsvikings waged siege after siege against the might of the Balderklan, it wouldn't be until the rise of William's Wrath that he finally fought and saw the true weight of working together for the betterment of the future.

Brynjar, after the war against the Balderklan, would get backlash from his idea of long term cooperation with the enemy, and would be exiled to the mountainous and otherwise inhospitable lands of Scandinavia with a group of his supporters. His wife and daughters were slaughtered and a blood feud stirred between him and the ones who had betrayed him, and would kill them in turn before leaving with his best men. He spent two decades in this harsh land, and after his supporters died from an assortment of environmental factors and assassination attempts, he decided to find a way to follow in the footsteps of the Balderklan's mysterious God-like warriors, by making his way to England so he could work with the Balderklan's remaining geniuses to leave this world forever.

With nothing left to hold onto in this world, he would be given a unique variant of the Improbability Drive in the form of a foldable longship so he could leave and sought after anyone who had also left this world, and after following the paths carved for him, he found new meaning in life after encountering the one who started it all in a world unfamiliar to him. For better or worse, he would become a Chompa with unique perks that made him hold onto his mortality and traditional values for the remainder of his life. Brynjar became a wanderer for quite some time after turning down the opportunity to travel with him for an assortment of reasons. When it came down to it, he wanted time in solace so he could figure out who and what he truly was.

After many years of traveling and exploring the multiverse, he would eventually find his way to the group of Chompas, almost surprised to see Primus for the first time. After acclimating to the group in their new home, he would take on a handful of roles, including the tavern owner, upkeeping the Cul-de-sac, and trainer of his unique combat style for the group and any newcomers who wished to master fundamental development and discipline of any form of weapon; mind, body, spirit, and arsenal.

  • [Wise] "War is something that demands more than just swords and shields. It requires a soldier who knows how to use them. Become one with your arsenal, and you become an embodiment of war itself."

  • [Firm] "Raw power is neat and all, but if you can't control it, then what's the point of having it?"

  • [Stern, coaching] "I don't care how powerful you are, you're too reckless! How can you dare hope to succeed if you rely solely on your powers and ignore the fundamentals?"
