The second Captain Kawabata in this story, this one is the boat captain who brought the Ushiromiya family to Rokkenjima on October 3rd, 1986. He loved modifying his already high speed boat, to poor Battler's detriment, and to this day has a fierce loyalty to the Ushiromiya family. Kawabata despises people who bring up the Rokkenjima Tragedy just to drive up ratings, preferring to let the family he served for years rest in peace.
Kawabata is voiced by Akimoto Yousuke and yes, he's not the plane captain, despite the reused name.
(excited to sad) I remember it veeery well...! You were still about this small. Look how you've grown...! And...it must have been very tough on you. I know very well how you must feel...!
(agreeing) I getcha. It won't be easy to find a boat eager to go to that island
(relieved) ...I'm grateful to you. This is a sign from the heavens. I've been given a final chance to take you to Rokkenjima and bring you back safely. Now, I'll finally be able to finish the final job Kinzo-san entrusted me with.
