Chitoge plays the tsundere stereotype straight with her hot-headed nature towards only those she perceives as annoying or threatening, such as Raku Ichijō (at first), Shū Maiko, and Marika Tachibana. During her first two weeks at Bonyari High School, she is also depicted as aloof and prone to lashing out even at strangers, as noticed by Raku during their first date together which was supervised by their clans. Due to the overprotective Claude, she had trouble making friends wherever she went to school in the past, and as a result, had to write about her classmates in an attempt to get closer to them. After (unwarranted) advice from Raku regarding approaching people, Chitoge makes friends with ease and becomes a bright and cheerful girl; despite still harboring ill-feeling towards Raku, she also becomes more helpful towards others.
