A legend in his own right, Allan Quatermain was a child hero. He discovered King Solomon's tomb, fought many a fierce foe and even got involved in relationships from time to time. However, one adventure led him to meet the love of his life -- Marie. She completed him in every way, and after years of adventuring, saw himself marrying her in the future. This happened to line up with a war between indigenous peoples in South Africa, and a full scale massacre occurred. Marie and Allan knew about it and tried to escape, but her father resented Allan, and as such, kept her at home when the massacre happened. She and Allan barely escaped... but only one of them left alive. Wracked with guilt and depression, Allan has lived the rest of his life at the bottom of a bottle. Now in his 20s, he suffers with visions of his long-lost love, but has no time to fear the threat of man. To him, he's seen true evil.
