Yomi's mother is a very fearful and shy woman, which implies the meaning of her name:fearfulness.
She is afraid of her own daughter and named her after the Underworld "Yomi".
Chesulloth is easily impressinable and always do what her husband or other villagers suggest.
She shows her fear towards her daughter but also kind of hates her, so she doesn't hesitate when it comes to punishment or mental abuse.
Because of her fear she often beat Yomi down or insult her.
Her behaviour is a result of her fear.
