The captain has a deep gravelly voice, and speaks with an accent somewhere between a Southern drawl and a typical western. He's middle aged, very worldly and experienced; he sounds tough but not so stern that a hearty laugh would seem out of character.

In this clip he has been shot in the chest and is bleeding out as he speaks. His ship is in ruins around him, his entire crew is dead, and he is recording his story onto the ships black box with his final moments.

He should sound in pain, but not overtly so. His voice will get more rough and strained as the clip progresses. He will occasionally have a coughing fit or spit blood during the dialogue.

  • I ain't used this thing in a while but I suppose I oughta let folks know what happened here; - *VIOLENT COUGH* - warn em; -*spit* - fore the dark takes me...

  • Let me tell ya, that poor bastard looked out there with longing in his eyes. Knowin' there's somethin' out there to make a man look at the void like that, well - *cough* - it almost makes a man thankful his lungs are collapsin' - *half hearted chuckle* - *VIOLENT COUGHING FIT* -

  • I managed to make it back here to my quarters before the airlocks blew, sealed her up good and tight. Damn fool I am, I thought I was safe. By the time I realised I wasn't alone it was too late; I took two slugs to the chest before my hands found that bastards neck.

That's a good audition - but what gives with mono in the left and nothing in the right side?

That was probably a setting on my sound editing program I forgot to change while I was recording. I can fix that if need be.

It's not my project - I'm just listening to some auditions.

I know I'm just glad you pointed that out. At first it sounded ok on my headphones but now I know what you mean.
