I think it fits his character, looking all scary but, has doubts of himself.  He’s one of those that works so hard that he doesn’t recognize his own potential till later on.

Commentary (summary of YOUR thoughts) on character’s appearance background:  Even with all that strong amour there is a softy under there. But he’s still one of the respectable ones and takes his knight-ship seriously.

Well with Jonas he’s quite something, looking all scary, but underneath it all, he doubts himself too much in his strength. He wants to be strong minded; he wants to be strong for everyone.  But he is, he just needs to figure it out himself.
