"Life Happens" - An Upcoming Anime Series
Angela (Ange) Brooke for Mrs. Lavelle
Mrs. Lavelle is the school's drama teacher, and has prominent parts in many episodes of the show. Though she is quite old, she is spritely and much more youthful. She is boisterous and overdramatic, and very passionate about her line of work. Prior to becoming a teacher, she worked professionally as an actress, writer and director in theatre. Some of her works have been well-regarded and she is respected amongst those that admire theatre. She gets annoyed when someone tries to take control, or tries to insist on a different way of doing things than theatres usually do. For instance, there are many processes that are involved in creating a theatrical production, and it gets on her nerves when someone disregards those processes in favor of doing things instant and without haste. Furthermore, she absolutely despises it when her professionalism and experience in the field is placed in doubt or disregarded.
The voice for this character is yours to interpret. Bear in mind that she is quite old, balancing the line between middle age and senior, but don't give her a raspy or croaky voice, or a chain-smoker. She is spritely and youthful. Her voice must reflect those aspects. As far as range and tone, those aspects are up to you. We look forward to your interpretations of this character.
[Mrs. Lavelle has a great passion for theatre. She gushes about it whenever she gets the chance. And when she sees a script that could be turned into a theatrical production, she is absolutely ecstatic.]
(gushing and excited) "We’re performing a musical! A fantastic modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet!"
(heaps of praise) "This... is... wonderful! Just from the first ten pages, your characters are relatable and fleshed out. The themes of your story are already established with such depth and detail!"
(reprimanding a student that doubts a person's creative abilities) "You should watch your tone, young man. This man has the potential to be a true playwright."
[Mrs. Lavelle has decades of experience in the theatre industry, and knows how things should be done. She despises it when someone disregards her advice and wants to do things instantaneously, rather than traditionally.]
(sternly and with authority) "Things may work that way for you, and you're more than welcome to think that way. However, in MY theatre, we hold auditions before making any casting decisions."
(a mixture of shock and frustration) "Wait! What are you doing? That's the main protagonist! We have given no one else the chance to audition for him yet! And you're just gonna give it away?"
[When Mrs. Lavelle is disrespected enough, she will lash out and voice her disapproval of the person disrespecting her.]
(offended) You're calling me, a PROFESSIONAL director, a has-been?
(aggravated) "No! YOU have been fighting US at every turn! If you want your play to see the light of day, you will work alongside us instead of against us!"
This is a great audition. So much passion behind the lines. Excellent line delivery, pacing and emotion. My only critique is the delivery of the line "You're calling me, a PROFESSIONAL director, a has-been?" It has a weird delivery with more emphasis on "Has-been" than the word "Professional," which needs that emphasis. Otherwise, fantastic audition. We will definitely take this into consideration.
Thank you so much for your feedback on all of my auditions! I agree that the “PROFESSIONAL” line was the main one I could’ve delivered much better. I hope to speak with you soon :) Should you need anything else from me, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
No problem. We will wait a while longer to let more people audition for Mrs. Lavelle, but your audition is certainly a great one.
