The cosmic guardian that gives the heroes – who have named him Ringo – their mission to save the multiverse and the last of an ancient race tasked to keep dimensional borders separate. Over the eons his powers and mind have weakened yet he dutifully tries to perform his task to the best of his increasingly limited capacity and feels the weight of the cosmic balance on his shoulders. Even in his weakened state he is still able to get some respect as a source of knowledge.
[Ringo is telling the origins of the Smiling Man and that he had to destroy his wife in order to protect cosmic balance.] “There was no consoling the former hero. I messaged him, explaining, justifying… He never answered. His technology made a paradise… but he lost the person that made paradise for him. His reality, his entire life of triumph, became a joke. But he could touch other realities. And he could joke too.”
[Ringo delivers judgment to the keepers back when they almost destroyed their reality. This is a flashback that happens maybe several centuries earlier.] “Your short-sighted blundering almost ended your entire reality. Trillions of beings. By the Firstverse you will make up for it by becoming keepers of the multiverse’s worst weapons – ones that endanger entire realities – forever.”
[Ringo has been informed that the leader of one of his rescue teams has been captured and taken to the Smiling Man’s special prison.] “No… not there. The only place in the multiverse that the Smiling Man has hidden from me. Abandon all hope ye who… I’m… I’m sorry. I fear for the plights of my agents inside the armory. I can only hope my intervention helped.”
