Throughout the player's journey, talking to him multiple times results in different dialogue. Like most minor characters, he has a vague personality, but is suggested to be caring. Another character, like the KEEPER, who should have the odd quality of being unsettling and soothing/comforting. A rougher, lower voice might be ideal, but we are open to interpretations.
