Allen, like Amelie, was a originally a human from the Real World who was abucted and taken into Wonderland by the Spinner of Tales. The only difference is, Allen was kidnapped as a young child. 

Allen is cheerful and lively, and is rarely cold or serious. He can be childish and boast about things he doesn't have knowledge, such as calling himself "Allen the Bookworm" and "Allen the Flower Expert" even though he's neither. Allen pretty much acts like an immature kid, and is often seen smiling sheepishly and joking no matter the situation. He tends to show impudent behavior such as barging in uninvited, casting a ruckus, standing on chairs, sitting on balcony railings, and walking on tables. He shamelessly grabs people and touches them without permission (not in a perverted way). Allen always brushes off criticism and scoldings with a bright smile.

He is an extrovert who at times, can also be sarcastic and reckless. He is flirtatious towards Amelie, and can be genuinely kind and sympathetic towards others. He rarely expresses his true emotions regarding his past, and conceals his past trauma and agony beneath his smile.
